As you can tell by the date of these last few posts, we are home now, and just trying to catch up on some of our adventures through the remaining days of our trip.
Jeju Island was by far one of our more amazing experiences! Our accommodations were wonderful - still no bed thought...lol, and the sightseeing was tremendous. Our biggest accomplishment.... climbing a volcanic mountain! Not only did Liam and I share an amazing sense of accomplishment together - yes, we did make it to the top!!, but every step was worth the spectacular view! See pic posted. Earlier that day we also visisted some waterfalls, which although very nice, especially the vegetation that surrounded them, I thought some of the falls we have at home were just as beautiful. One of Liam's highlights was when his friend Jinoo, 'GAVE' Liam the now ever popular hat! For those of you who know Liam and how much he likes to dress up.... I don't have to tell you how happy this made him. I think he said something to the effect that he wasn't going to get rid of that hat until almost the day he dies...lol He was feeling might proud!
We also visited Jeju Folk Villiage, which was much different then the Korean Folk Villiage - it seemed much more similiar to the Canadian Native culture, even some of the music sounded a bit like home.
Another highlight was our trip to the Dragon Rock - a beach made of lava rock, with one rock in particular looking somewhat like a dragon's head. We also observed women cleaning some type of sea urchin... very cool up close! When we finished our climb from the beach a few of us were asked to participate individually in a Jeju TV commercial.... I declined, even though I was told I could keep on my sunglasses so I wouldn't be recognized.... how funny is that???? LOL
Liam spent an entire morning at the beach with our friends the Fulfords, while I was able to do some laundry and catch up on a bit of work - only to realize I don't have any pictures of Liam in the Sea..... I'm sure we will have access to some down the road.
Jeju was really cool to say the least. We picked up a couple of souvineers, such as perfume made only from flowers and tangerines found on the Island, and I got a small purse made from a special cloth also only made on Jeju....handmade one of a kind stuff.. I love it!
Liam brought home pockets full of sea glass from the beach, which now sits in our living room in a funky martini glass for display! For once, Liam and his "rocks" actually serve as a beautiful conversation piece....lol
Ah, a blog about Jeju that I've been waiting for! (Alex corrects his Dad every time he inadvertently calls it Soju Island!;). Sounds like photos cannot do it justice.
ReplyDeleteOne disappointment for Alex is that he forgot his "basket of glass" as you describe. Thanks goodness we have photos, and I think I would have liked to use it for decor too!
Will look to see if have photos of Liam on beach.

Those are really great pictures of Jeju Island. You sure visited some beautiful places on this trip to South Korea. BUT the beautiful glow on your faces when talking about the trip is even more beautiful. Liam got a great Mom and Lisa you got a great Son and how wonderful that you shared this visit to his Birthland. :)
ReplyDeleteLove you lots
